Critical issues in the PD testing methodology for XLPE-insulated MV cables: An experimental case

This paper describes some critical issues arising during the partial discharge (PD) testing of a 500m delivery length of an XLPE-insulated MV cable. At first, conventional PD measurements were performed on the whole length by using a standard acquisition system; PDs activity was detected, but the system allowed the operator to localize the PDs only on a length of 70 m. A visual inspection of this section highlighted the presence of an excoriation in the outer sheet. Aiming at a more accurate pin-pointing of the defect, more measurements were carried out in the proximity of the outer defect using a portable PD detection system. Architectural effects on fossil preservation. The case of macaroni coralline algae

Coralline red algae with protuberances in their thalli are common and instructive examples of fabricational effects on fossil preservation. The body (thallus) of non-geniculate coralline algae is a coherent mass of cell filaments. All vegetative cells, except the epithallial ones at the tip of each filament are enclosed by a high-Mg calcite wall. Many extant and extinct species of coralline algae have protuberances in their thalli. Protuberances appear both on the dorsal surface of algae that grow attached to a rigid substrate and in unattached specimens living on loose sediment. The purpose of this study was to compare numerical simulation data derived from finite element analysis (FEA) to experimental data on mini-implant loading. Nine finite element (FE) models of mini-implants and surrounding bone were derived from corresponding experimental specimens. The animal bone in the experiment consisted of bovine rib. The experimental groups were based on implant type, length, diameter, and angle of insertion. One experimental specimen was randomly selected from each group and was digitized in a microCT scanner. DETERMINATION AND ANALYSIS OF HEAD AND CHEST PARAMETERS BY SIMULATION OF VEHICLE-TEENAGER IMPACT

This paper reports the results of multi-body numerical simulation of a vehicle crash with a teenager pedestrian. A previous technique utilized for adult pedestrian impact is applied. The work starts with the determination of the masses for the various segments of the body of a teenager with a total mass of 45 kg and then switches to the construction of the dummy and the middle-class vehicle in the Visual Nastran environment. Simulations are performed for both frontal impacts and lateral impacts, when the vehicle is travelling at a constant speed and when the vehicle is braking, following the Euro NCAP rules on the subject.
